Leading from your desk is like trying to understand a football match through radio commentary. Nothing can replace those moments when you go to the field to meet with team members and understand their daily realities.
This morning, Fabrice Bernhard and I were at DEVOPS REX sharing the inspiring story of Bpifrance's Digital Factory and its transformation through Lean Tech principles.
It all began with a team of 10 people who found themselves at the heart of the Covid crisis response in March 2020. A colossal challenge: building the State-Guaranteed Loan (PGE) platform in just 5 days to support French companies, handling €1 billion in guaranteed loans in the first 24 hours.
Following this remarkable success, we shared how the organization maintained its agility while scaling to 300 people, thanks to Lean Tech principles.
🚀 5 years later, the results speak for themselves:
89% customer satisfaction 🤩
40 daily production deployments 🐎
Employee NPS above 50 🎉
Kudos to all teams who contributed to these achievements, from the early PGE days until now!
A key highlight from our discussions: the regular "gemba walks" I conduct - these moments when I go to the field to directly engage with teams, understand their challenges, and identify opportunities for improving our customer experience. Thank you Sandrine Olivencia, Ludi Akue, PhD Kirsten Cosme for perfectly capturing these essential moments of exchange in this photo 😊
I highly recommend reading the Tech Lean Manifesto by Fabrice Bernhard and Benoit Charles-Lavauzelle - it's a game-changer for understanding how Lean principles can revolutionize tech organizations.
